DUBAI – Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority has opened applications for the third cohort of the Hamdan bin Mohammed Scholarship Programme for the 2026-27 academic year.
The initiative offers a structured pathway for Emirati students aiming to study at leading universities worldwide. Applications are being accepted via the Dubai Now app, with the deadline set for 30 June 2026.
Launched in 2024 under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the programme is designed to nurture high-performing Emirati students and equip them with the academic and leadership capabilities required for Dubai’s future growth. It aligns with long-term strategies including the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33), the Dubai Social Agenda 33, and the Education 33 roadmap, reflecting the broader vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to prioritise human capital development.
How to apply
Eligible students can submit their applications through the ‘Emirati’ section on the Dubai Now app. Candidates are required to ensure all academic records and supporting documents are uploaded accurately before the closing date.
Applicants must have already received either a conditional or unconditional offer from a recognised university and programme that meets the scholarship’s criteria. The process is designed to be straightforward, allowing students to track progress digitally while ensuring transparency in selection.
Authorities have emphasised that timely submission is critical, as late applications will not be considered. Students are also encouraged to review detailed guidelines available on KHDA’s official platforms to avoid errors during submission.
Eligibility criteria
The scholarship is open to Emirati students who completed high school during the 2023-24, 2024-25, or 2025-26 academic years. Applicants must hold a Dubai family book and should not be recipients of any other scholarship.
In addition, candidates must commit to full-time study in their chosen host country. Academic merit remains a key selection factor, with a focus on students who demonstrate both strong academic performance and the potential to contribute to national development.
The programme specifically targets students pursuing disciplines aligned with Dubai’s future priorities. These include computer science, artificial intelligence, digital technologies, business, finance, medicine, law, and social sciences.
Programme benefits
With a total allocation of Dh1.1 billion, the programme provides 100 fully funded scholarships each year. It covers outstanding Emirati graduates from both public and private schools across multiple curricula, ensuring broad accessibility.
A significant proportion of current recipients are enrolled in globally recognised institutions, with around 70 per cent studying at universities ranked among the world’s top 100. This global exposure is intended to build a generation of professionals equipped with specialised knowledge and international experience.
The initiative goes beyond academic funding by focusing on leadership development and entrepreneurial skills. It is structured to prepare students for influential roles across public and private sectors, contributing to Dubai’s long-term economic and social ambitions.
Dr Amna Almaazmi, CEO of Growth and Human Development at KHDA, highlighted that the programme plays a central role in developing highly qualified Emirati talent. She noted that the diversity of specialisations pursued by students reflects its impact in building future leadership capabilities while supporting national priorities.
Authorities have also pointed to strong participation in previous cohorts, with many students already progressing through top-tier universities worldwide. Families in Dubai are being encouraged to support applicants, recognising the role of family backing in shaping academic success.
